The SCE met recently in San Antonio and the following awards were presented

Oxford awards for best endocrine clinical study manuscript of the year:

1st place: Berg RI, Nelson RW, Feldman EC, Kass PH, Pollard R, Refsal KR. Serum insulin-like growth factor-I concentration in cats with diabetes mellitus and acromegaly. J Vet Intern Med. 2007;21:892-898.

2nd place: Niessen SJ, Petrie G, Gaudiano F, Khalid M, Smyth JB, Mahoney P and Church D, et al. Feline acromegaly: An underdiagnosed endocrinopathy? J Vet Intern Med. 2007; 21:899-905.

Oxford awards for best endocrine basic science manuscript of the year:

1st place: Hoenig M, Thomaseth K, Waldron M, Ferguson DC. Insulin sensitivity, fat distribution, and adipocytokine response to different diets in lean and obese cats before and after weight loss. Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2007;292: R227-34.

2nd place: Goldstein RE, Atwater DZ, Cazolli DM, Goldstein O, Wade CM, Lindblad-Toh K. Inheritance, mode of inheritance, and candidate genes for primary hyperparathyroidism in keeshonden. J Vet Intern Med. 2007;21:199-203.

Virbac/Soloxine(TM) award for an abstract presented by a resident or graduate student:

Hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamps using insulin detemir and insulin glargine in healthy cats. C Gilor, T Keel, KJ Attermeier, TK Graves. University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Urbana, IL.

SCE award for an abstract presented by a resident:

The effect of hypothyroidism on insulin sensitivity in dogs. N Inteeworn, DL Panciera, WE Monroe, KE Saker. Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA.
